  • Well, the holidays have been stressful, but at least somewhat enjoyable.  My dad and I get on each other nerves alot, but it wasn’t too bad.  We took the fam-damily out to the new house and they discovered a couple things that we’d missed the first couple times out.  I don’t think it’s anything major, but I’m afraid one of the defects will cause VA to turn down the loan.  I’m nervous.   There some exterior damage to the log siding on one side of the house, fairly deep, but it doesn’t effect the structural integrity of the building.  We’ll have to get it fixed asap so no water damage occurs, but there’s extra siding in the garage, so we’ll just have to pay for labor.  As long as VA approves.   We’ll see!

The in-laws all seeme to get along, so hopefully no issues there.  We still haven’t told G’s daughter about the engagement, but I think she’ll take it well when she does find out.  I hope.

I seem to be doing a lot of hoping.

  • @Setanta - VA is Veteran Affairs.  A VA loan is a loan that’s ensured by the Department of Veteran Affairs that allows military veterans to get a loan at a really low APR and for no money down.  It’s spiffy. :)   The only bummer is that the property has to be inspected by a VA appraiser, and sometimes they can be super-picky about regulations, i.e., “We can’t insure this house because the closets are only 21.7 inches and regulation requires them to be 22.”  Yeah, seriously.
